Yes, we offer an 8-hour course designed to meet the DEA's one-time requirement for registered practitioners to demonstrate that they have completed 8 hours of relevant accredited education before they obtain a new DEA license or renew their current DEA licenses. This requirement went into effect June 27, 2023. Nurses, APRNs, physicians, physician assistants, and mental health professionals can access the course here; dental professionals can access the course here.

Who is required to meet the requirement?

All DEA-registered practitioners are required to complete the requirement, with the exception of practitioners who are solely veterinarians. DEA-registered pharmacists licensed in states where they are authorized to prescribe controlled substances are also required to complete the requirement.

What are the course content requirements?

Content should be related to the prevention, recognition, and care of people with substance use disorders, including those with concurrent pain and/or psychiatric and medical co-morbidities. Recommended core curricular training elements could include the categories of substance use disorders, effective treatment planning, and pain management and substance misuse.

What type of credit is accepted?

Will NetCE report my credit for this training?

We will report completion to JA-PARS for participating boards, as well as to CE Broker if your state board participates. However, licensees will simply attest to completing the requirement on their DEA license application.
