Oregon Advanced Practice Registered Nurses CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals
Oregon Nurses
In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
The Oregon State Board of Nursing accepts courses from any provider who is ANCC accredited.
Continuing Education Requirement
The Oregon State Board of Nursing accepts courses provided by NetCE
RNs and LPNs Starting with renewals on or after July 1, 2021, attestation to two (2) hours of cultural competency education is required every renewal. Completion of a one-hour OR Pain Management Commission of the OR Health Authority (OPMC) module is required with every renewal or reactivation application. There is a one-time requirement (at initial license, endorsement, or reactivation without evidence of previous completion) of 6 hours in pain management. This is in addition to the one-hour OPMC module that is required every renewal. (OAC 851-031-0006(f) & (g); ORS 413.590).
For licensees who cannot attest to 400 hours of nursing practice within the past 2 years, the following additional requirements apply:
- A minimum of 600 hours of practice in the last 3 years, and 20 hours of continuing education related to area of nursing practice.
- A minimum of 800 hours of practice in the last 4 years, and 30 hours of continuing education related to area of nursing practice.
- If less than 960 hours of practice in the last 5 years, practice re-entry application is required.
APRNs are required to maintain RN license; and 400+ hours of APRN practice. (APRN practice hours may be applied to RN renewal; RN practice hours may not be applied to APRN renewal).
APRN-NP must maintain active national certification congruent with license type and specialty. (APRN-NPs licensed prior to January 1, 2011, are required 45 contact hours of CE in population foci instead of national certification.)
APRN-CRNA must maintain active national certification congruent with license type and specialty.
APRN-CNS are not required national certification for licensure.
APRNs who hold a fluoroscopy supervision permit are required four (4) hours per year or (8) hours for a 2-year renewal period on the topic of fluoroscopy, half of which must be related to radiation use and safety and half of which must be related to the clinical use of fluoroscopy.
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required 8 hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder, one-time only.
