Cultural Competency CE Requirement for Illinois Healthcare Professionals

Beginning with renewals on and after January 1, 2025, healthcare professionals have a new statutorily mandated continuing education requirement of at least 1 hour in cultural competency that must be completed within 3 biennial renewal periods. Understanding the Illinois Cultural Competency CE Requirement

What is the IL CE update for cultural competency for healthcare professionals?

Beginning with renewals on and after January 1, 2025, health care professionals have a new statutorily mandated continuing education requirement of at least 1 hour in cultural competency. The completion deadline is within 3 biennial renewal periods. A health care professional may count this one hour for completion of this course toward meeting the minimum credit hours required for continuing education. (PA 103-0531 enacted 8/11/2023 effective 1/1/2025). Any licensee whose next renewal is on or after January 1, 2025 is eligible to complete this requirement now. 

What professions does NetCE support to complete their cultural competency requirement?

We support the CE/CME needs of the following licensed prescribers of controlled substances that are required to complete training related to the Illinois CE mandate:
