Alaska Advanced Practice Registered Nurses CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals

Alaska Nurses

In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The Alaska Board of Nursing accepts courses from any provider who is ANCC accredited.

Continuing Education Requirement

Attention RNs and LPNs The Alaska State Board of Nursing per authority of SB241 Sec. 6 (b)(2) decreased the 2020 license renewal requirement to provide 30 hours of continuing education to 15 hours of continuing education for both licensed practical nurses and registered nurses. The Board also waived the professional activity hours for September 30, 2020 (LPNs) and November 30, 2020 (RNs) license renewal. The Alaska Board of Nursing accepts NetCE courses.

RNs are required two of the following every two years: 30 contact hours, 320 hours of documented nursing employment, and/or 30 hours in professional activities or volunteer work.

LPNs are required two of the following every two years: 30 contact hours, 320 hours of documented nursing employment, and/or 30 hours in professional activities or volunteer work.

APRNs are required two of the following every two years: 30 contact hours, 320 hours of documented nursing employment, and/or 30 hours in professional activities or volunteer work.

APRNs with prescriptive authority are required 12 contact hours in advanced pharmacology, 12 contact hours in clinical management of patients, which may be counted as part of the 30 contact hours.

In addition, to renew a valid federal DEA registration number required 2 hours in pain management and opioid use and addiction.
