Illinois Psychologists

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs.

The Illinois Clinical Psychologists licensing & Disciplinary Committee accepts courses from any provider who is approved by the American Psychological Association.

Continuing Education Requirement

Attention Illinois Psychologists:

Due to a variance issued by the Governor, all continuing education may be completed by home study until further notice. For more information, please visit https://www.idfpr.com/Forms/COVID19/Variance%20for%20Clin%20Psyc%20Pres%20Psych.pdf.

Psychologists are required 24 hours every two years, 18 of which may be completed by home study.* A minimum of 3 of the 24 hours must be in ethics every two years.

Beginning January 1, 2021, all licensees who are considered mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect are required to complete training on the subject within 3 months of engagement in a professional or official capacity as a mandated reporter. Psychologists must complete the training at least every 3 years thereafter. The training will count toward meeting a licensee's required continuing education, and is provided by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

*NetCE courses are considered home study.
