Iowa Counselors / Therapists
NetCE has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6361. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. NetCE is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
The Iowa Board of Behavioral Science accepts courses from any provider who is NBCC approved.
Continuing Education Requirement
The Iowa Board of Behavioral Science accepts NetCE courses.
LMHC and LMFT are required 40 hours every two years, all of which may be completed by independent study.*
A minimum of 3 of the 40 hours must be in ethics every two years.
Beginning with 2024 license renewals (licensing period 9/1/2022-9/30/2024), licensees in supervisory roles are required 3 hours in supervision, every two years. Independent-level LMHC and LMFT are required 6 hours in counseling supervision to meet the supervised clinical experience requirement, one time only.
Mandatory reporters are required 2 hours in identifying and reporting abuse of children and/or 2 hours in identifying and reporting abuse of dependent adults, unless exempt. Beginning July 1, 2024, licensees must complete the 2-hour core training curriculum(s), every three years.**
* NetCE courses are considered independent study.
** The initial 2 hours must be completed within the first six months of employment/self-employment. All mandatory reporter training may only be completed through the Iowa Dept of Health and Human Services. See training here: https://hhs.iowa.gov/report-abuse-fraud/mandatory-reporters.
