ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Continuing Education

The Michigan Board of Dentistry accepts NetCE courses

Dentists are required 60 hours every three years, 30 hours of which may be completed asynchronously. Specific requirements include:

  • Three (3) hours in pain and symptom management, every three years.
  • One (1) hour in dental ethics and jurisprudence including delegation to allied dental personnel, every three years.
  • One (1) hour in infection control, including sterilization of hand pieces, personal protective equipment, and CDC Guidelines, every three years.
  • NEW Beginning June 1, 2022, an applicant for licensure or registration must have completed a minimum of 2 hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of the license or registration. Additionally, beginning on June 1, 2022, and for every renewal thereafter, in addition to completing any continuing education required for renewal, reregistration, or relicensure, an applicant must have completed a minimum of 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of the applicant's license or registration cycle.
  • NEW Beginning with the 2022 renewal cycle, controlled substances licensees must complete training in opioids and controlled substances, one-time only. (Per MI Board of Pharmacy R 338.3135)
  • All licensees have a training requirement in identifying victims of human trafficking, one-time only. (Per MI R 338.11271)

Dental Hygienists and Dental Assistants are required 36 hours every three years, 18 hours of which may be completed asynchronously. Specific requirements include:

  • Two (2) hours in pain and symptom management, every three years.
  • One (1) hour in dental ethics and jurisprudence including delegation to allied dental personnel, every three years.
  • One (1) hour in infection control, including sterilization of hand pieces, personal protective equipment, and CDC Guidelines, every three years.
