The Tennessee Board of Dentistry accepts courses from any provider who is ADA or AGD approved.

Continuing Education

The Tennessee Board of Dentistry accepts NetCE courses.

Dentists are required 40 hours every two years, all of which may be completed by home study.* A minimum of 2 of the 40 hours must be in chemical dependency, every two years. Dentists who hold a limited or comprehensive conscious sedation permit or deep sedation/general anesthesia permit are also required 4 of the 40 hours to be in the subject of sedation and/or anesthesia, every two years.

Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required 8 hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder; or the safe pharmacological management of dental pain and screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment of patients with (or at risk of developing) opioid and other substance use disorders, one-time only.

Dental Hygienists are required 30 hours every two years, all of which may be completed by home study.* A maximum of 15 hours may be online or web-based. A minimum of 2 of the 30 hours must be in chemical dependency, every two years.

Dental Assistants are required 24 hours every two years, all of which may be completed by home study.* A minimum of 2 of the 24 hours must be in chemical dependency, every two years.

*NetCE courses are considered home study.
