ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. The New York State Board for Dentistry accepts courses from any provider who is ADA approved.
Continuing Education
Attention New York Dentists and Dental Hygienists: In response to the evolving situation with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), and for those licensees whose registrations are due to renew March 1, 2020-January 1, 2023, the Department will grant an adjustment to all licensees to complete up to 100% of the continuing education as self-study, so long as it is taken from a Department-approved provider and is in an acceptable subject area for the specific profession. The New York State Board for Dentistry accepts NetCE courses.
Dentists are required 60 hours every three years, 18 of which may be completed
by self-instructional coursework.*
Additional requirements include:
- A one-time of a minimum of 2 hours in chemical related effects and usage of tobacco and tobacco products at initial renewal,
- A one-time of a minimum of 3 hours approved by the department in dental jurisprudence and ethics at initial renewal,
- A one-time requirement of a minimum of 2 hours in child abuse identification and reporting training,
- A course on infection control every 4 years.
- All prescribers of controlled substances are required 3 hours of pain management, palliative care, and addiction every 3 years.
Dental Hygienists are required 24 hours every three years, 10 of which may be completed by self-instructional coursework.*
- A one-time requirement of a minimum of 2 hours in child abuse identification and reporting training and
- A course on infection control every 4 years.
*NetCE courses are considered self-instructional coursework.
