Kentucky Advanced Practice Registered Nurses CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals

Kentucky Nurses

In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.


The Kentucky Board of Nursing accepts courses from any provider who is ANCC accredited.

In addition to our ANCC accreditation, NetCE is an approved provider through the Kentucky Board of Nursing, Provider #7-0054 through 12/31/2025.

Continuing Education Requirement

NetCE is an approved provider through the Kentucky Board of Nursing, Provider #7-0054 through 12/31/2025.

NetCE is an approved provider through CE Broker, Provider #50-2405.

NetCE will electronically report successful course completion to CE Broker.

RNs and LPNs are required 14 contact hours each year. Those seeking licensure by endorsement or licensure by examination from another state must complete 3 contact hours in domestic violence, elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation; 2 contact hours in suicide prevention; 1.5 contact hours in pediatric abusive head trauma; and, 1.5 contact hours in implicit bias continuing education.

NEW All RNs, LPNs, and APRNs who hold an active license on July 1, 2022 are required to complete 2 hours in suicide prevention and 1.5 hours in implicit bias (one-time only) by July 1, 2023. For licenses issued after July 1, 2022, these one-time requirements must be satisfied within 3 years of licensure.

APRNs are required 14 contact hours each year and an additional 5 contact hours in pharmacology each renewal.

APRNs with CAPA-CS are required 1.5 of the 5 pharmacology hours on the dual subjects of pharmacology and either pain management or addiction disorders each renewal.

APRNs with DEA-X registration are required 4 contact hours in addiction disorders, which must include 1.5 hours on the dual subjects of addiction disorders and pharmacology. Hours earned in pharmacology addiction disorders may be applied to the 5 pharmacology hours required for all APRNs.

Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required 8 hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder, one-time only.

All SANE credential holders are required 5 contact hours in sexual assault continuing education each renewal. Any domestic violence or forensic nursing course(s) will meet this mandate. Hours may count toward the 14 hours of continuing education required for renewal.
