Kentucky Nurses CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals
Kentucky Nurses
In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
The Kentucky Board of Nursing accepts courses from any provider who is ANCC accredited.
In addition to our ANCC accreditation, NetCE is an approved provider through the Kentucky Board of Nursing, Provider #7-0054 through 12/31/2025.
Continuing Education Requirement
NetCE is an approved provider through the Kentucky Board of Nursing, Provider #7-0054 through 12/31/2025.
NetCE is an approved provider through CE Broker, Provider #50-2405.
NetCE will
electronically report successful course completions to CE Broker.
RN, LPN, and APRN are required 14 contact hours each year, including a minimum of 7 hours from a Board-approved provider. Nurses must complete the following: 3 contact hours in domestic violence, elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation; 2 contact hours in suicide prevention; 1.5 contact hours in pediatric abusive head trauma, one-time only for license renewal or within 3 years of initial licensure. Effective July 15, 2024, these requirements include 1 hour on Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. Active license holders as of July 15, 2024, must complete this requirement by October 31, 2027. Nurses actively licensed after July 15, 2024, must complete this requirement within 3 years of initial licensure
APRN are required 5 contact hours in pharmacology each year.
APRN with an active DEA registration and PDMP account must dedicate 3 of the 5 required pharmacology hours to the subjects of pain management or addiction disorders each year. This updated requirement begins with the renewal period ending 10/31/2024.
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required 8 hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder, one-time only.
All SANE credential holders are required 5 contact hours in sexual assault continuing education each renewal. Any domestic violence or forensic nursing course(s) will meet this mandate. Hours may count toward the 14 hours of continuing education required for renewal.
Certifying practitioners of medicinal cannabis are required 6 contact hours with initial application and 3 contact hours each renewal thereafter in medicinal cannabis.
