California Psychologists CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals

California Psychologists

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs.

The California Board of Psychology accepts courses from any provider who is approved by the American Psychological Association.

Continuing Education Requirement

Psychologists are required 36 hours every two years, including 4 hours in the subject of laws and ethics as they pertain to the practice of psychology, and 4 hours in cultural diversity and/or social justice as they apply to the practice of psychology. A maximum of 27 hours may be taken in the category of approved sponsored continuing education.*

Effective January 1, 2020, all applicants and current licensees must complete a one-time requirement of 6 hours in suicide assessment and intervention.

* NetCE courses are approved sponsored continuing education.
