Minnesota Social Workers

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, NetCE is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. NetCE maintains responsibility for this course.

The Minnesota Board of Social Work accepts courses from any provider who is ASWB approved.

Continuing Education Requirement

Attention Minnesota Social Workers: Board of Social Work Continuing Education Variance extended per News Release issued 1/27/2022. Licenses issued prior to September 1, 2022, with expiration dates before September 1, 2023 will have no limit on the number of independent learning hours obtained and reported at renewal. The Governor’s Emergency Executive Order 20-23 (EO 20-23) has authorized the Board of Social Work to defer continuing education reporting requirements until the first full reporting cycle following termination of the peacetime emergency. Additionally, for all social work licenses that expire between February 29, 2020, and February 28, 2022, there will be no limit on the amount of independent study hours that may be used to complete the continuing education hours required for renewal of the license. The Minnesota Board of Social Work accepts NetCE courses.

LICSWs, LISWs, LGSWs, and LSWs are required 40 hours every two years, 20 of which may be completed by independent study.*

All licensees are required a minimum of 2 of the 40 hours in ethics, and 4 hours in cultural responsiveness, every two years.

LICSWs are required at least 12 of the 40 hours in clinical content every two years.

Licensing supervisors are required 6 hours in supervision content every two years.

*NetCE courses are considered independent study.
