New Mexico Advanced Practice Registered Nurses CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals

New Mexico Nurses

In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The New Mexico Board of Nursing accepts courses from any provider who is ANCC accredited.

Continuing Education Requirement

The New Mexico Board of Nursing accepts NetCE courses.

LPNs, RNs and APRNs are required 30 contact hours every two years.

APRN-CNPs and APRN-CNSs with a DEA registration are required an additional 20 hours in the following:

APRN-CNPs and APRN-CNSs without a DEA registration are required an additional 20 hours in the following:

  • 10 hours in the scope of practice, and
  • 10 hours in pharmacology

APRN-CNSs with controlled substances prescriptive and dispensing authority may complete 45 hours of advanced level pharmacology continuing education in lieu of a three credit-hour graduate level advanced nursing program academic pharmacology course.

APRN-CRNAs must maintain NBCRNA certification. Licensees with a DEA registration are required 5 hours in non-cancer pain management.

The New Mexico Department of Health encourages certifying practitioners to completed at least 2 CME hours related to the medicinal use of cannabis each year.

CNMs (Certified Nurse Midwives) and LMs (Licensed Midwives) are licensed and regulated by the Maternal Health Program under the New Mexico Department of Health. LMs are required to maintain certification through NARM; and complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every renewal period. CNMs are required to maintain AMCB certification; and complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every renewal period, 15 hours of which must be related to pharmacology, and a minimum of 2 hours (5 hours for first renewal), on any of the following topics:
