Vermont Advanced Practice Registered Nurses CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals

Vermont Nurses

In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The Vermont State Board of Nursing accepts courses from any provider who is ANCC accredited.

Continuing Education Requirement

The Vermont State Board of Nursing accepts NetCE courses.

RNs and LPNs are required one of the following, every two years:

  • Verified 50 days (400 hours) active practice in the previous 2 years, or 120 days (960 hours) in the previous 5 years;
  • Twenty (20) hours of qualifying continuing education in the 2 years immediately preceding application; or
  • Hold a current nationally recognized certification.

APRNs are required all of the following, every two years:

  • Satisfy RN renewal requirement;
  • Practiced in an APRN role for 50 days (400 hours) in the 2 years preceding application, or 120 days (960 hours) in the previous 5 years;
  • Present current certification by a national APRN certifying organization; and
  • If required, have a current collaborating provider agreement.

APRNs who prescribe or dispense controlled substances must complete two (2) hours on controlled substances, every two years.

Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required 8 hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder, one-time only.
