Maryland Nurses CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals

Maryland Nurses

In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The Maryland Board of Nursing accepts courses from any provider who is ANCC accredited.

Continuing Education Requirement

Attention Maryland Nurses: Per the Executive Order issued by the Governor on June 15, 2021, all licenses and certificates that would expire prior to August 15, 2021, were extended until 11:59 p.m. on August 15, 2021, after which time the license or certificate expired unless renewed prior to that date. For the duration of the federal COVID-19 public health emergency declaration renewed on October 15, 2021, holders of current active RN or LPN licenses from other states or jurisdictions may render nursing care in Maryland. The Maryland Board of Nursing accepts NetCE courses.

RNs and LPNs are required to complete one of the following for license renewal:

  • 1,000 hours of active nursing practice within the 5 previous years; or
  • Board-approved nursing education program within the 5 previous years; or
  • 30 CEUs within the 2 years immediately preceding renewal.

RN-FNEs (Forensic Nurse Examiners) are required 16 hours in forensic science or forensic nursing every two years.

APRNs are required to maintain current and provide proof of national certification.
