Alaska Nurses CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals

Alaska Nurses

In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The Alaska Board of Nursing accepts courses from any provider who is ANCC accredited.

Continuing Education Requirement

The Alaska Board of Nursing accepts NetCE courses.

RNs are required two of the following every two years: 30 contact hours, 320 hours of documented nursing employment, and/or 30 hours in professional activities or volunteer work.

LPNs are required two of the following every two years: 30 contact hours, 320 hours of documented nursing employment, and/or 30 hours in professional activities or volunteer work.

APRNs are required two of the following every two years: 30 contact hours, 320 hours of documented nursing employment, and/or 30 hours in professional activities or volunteer work.

APRNs with prescriptive authority are required 15 contact hours in advanced pharmacology and clinical management of drug therapy, which may be counted as part of the 30 contact hours.

In addition, to renew a valid federal DEA registration number requires 2 hours in pain management and opioid use and addiction.

Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required 8 hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder, one-time only.
