California Pharmacists CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals

California Pharmacists / Pharmacy Technicians

In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

NetCE will report your credit to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), provided that you add your NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth to your account. If you select to opt out of entering this information, you agree to not hold NetCE responsible for reporting your credit. The California Board of Pharmacy accepts courses from any provider who is ACPE accredited.

Continuing Education Requirement

NetCE will report your credit to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), provided that you add your NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth to your account. If you select to opt out of entering this information, you agree to not hold NetCE responsible for reporting your credit.

Pharmacists are required 30 hours every two years, all of which may be completed by home study.*

Beginning with July 1, 2019 renewals, all pharmacists must complete 2 hours in a board-provided course in law and ethics every two years.**

NEW Beginning with renewals on and after January 1, 2024, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians are required at least 1 hour of participation every two years in a cultural competency and humility course.

Pharmacists authorized to prescribe a Schedule II controlled substance are required to complete an education course every four years on the risks of addiction associated with the use of Schedule II drugs.

Pharmacists who furnish prescription nicotine replacement products are required 1 hour every two years specific to smoking cessation therapy.

Pharmacists who furnish travel medications are required 2 hours every two years from an approved provider focused on travel medicine, separate from continuing education in immunizations and vaccines.

Pharmacists who administer vaccines are required 1 hour every two years specific to immunizations and vaccines.

Prior to furnishing naloxone hydrochloride, Pharmacists are required 1 hour one-time only specific to the use of naloxone hydrochloride in all identified routes of administration.

Prior to furnishing naloxone hydrochloride, Pharmacists are required 1 hour one-time only specific to opioid antagonists.

Prior to furnishing self-administered hormonal contraceptives, Pharmacists are required 1 hour one-time only of board-approved training specific to the US Medical Eligibility Criteria (USMEC) for Contraceptive Use and other CDC guidance on contraceptives.

Prior to furnishing emergency contraception, Pharmacists are required 1 hour specific to the topic of emergency contraception.

Pharmacy Technicians are not required general continuing education at this time.
