Michigan Pharmacy Technicians CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals

Michigan Pharmacists / Pharmacy Technicians

In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

NetCE will report your credit to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), provided that you add your NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth to your account. The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs: Board of Pharmacy accepts courses from any provider who is ACPE accredited.

Continuing Education Requirement

Pharmacists are required 30 hours every two years, 20 of which may be completed by home study.*

Requirements include:

  • One (1) hour in pain and symptom management every two years. May include courses in behavior management, psychology of pain, pharmacology, behavior modification, stress management, clinical applications as they relate to professional practice.
  • One (1) hour in pharmacy ethics and pharmacy law every two years. (May be completed in one or multiple courses)
  • NEW Beginning June 1, 2022, an applicant for pharmacist licensure or registration must have completed a minimum of two (2) hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of the license or registration. For every renewal thereafter, in addition to completing any continuing education required for renewal, reregistration, or relicensure, an applicant must have completed a minimum of one (1) hour of implicit bias training for each year of the applicant's license or registration cycle. If otherwise permitted by the code and rules, this training may be used to satisfy other training or continuing education requirements. Instruction must be synchronous/interactive or asynchronous teleconference or webinar. (Per MI R 338.7004 eff 3/23/2023)
  • Beginning with 2020 renewals, pharmacists must complete training in identifying victims of human trafficking, one-time only.
  • Beginning with 2021 renewals, controlled substance pharmacists must complete a one-time training in opioids and controlled substance awareness.

Pharmacy Technicians are required 20 hours every two years, 15 of which may be completed by non-interactive means.**

Requirements include:

  • One (1) hour in pain and symptom management every two years. May include courses in behavior management, psychology of pain, pharmacology, behavior modification, stress management, clinical applications as they relate to professional practice.
  • One (1) hour in patient safety every two years.
  • One (1) hour in pharmacy ethics and jurisprudence every two years. (May be completed in one or multiple courses)
  • NEW Beginning June 1, 2022, an applicant for pharmacy technician licensure or registration must have completed a minimum of two (2) hours of implicit bias training within the 5 years immediately preceding issuance of the license or registration. For every renewal thereafter, in addition to completing any continuing education required for renewal, reregistration, or relicensure, an applicant must have completed a minimum of one (1) hour of implicit bias training for each year of the applicant's license or registration cycle. If otherwise permitted by the code and rules, this training may be used to satisfy other training or continuing education requirements.
