Texas Physician Assistants

In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

As a jointly accredited provider, NetCE is authorized to award Category 1 CME Credit to physician assistants certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

The Texas State Board of Medical Examiners accepts courses from any provider who is ACCME-accredited and awards AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™.

Continuing Education Requirement

PAs are required 40 hours every two years, 20 of which must be Category 1.*

Beginning with renewals on or after September 1, 2020, and each renewal thereafter, licensees who provide direct patient care must complete a course on identifying and assisting human trafficking victims approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

Beginning with renewals on or after September 1, 2020, and each renewal thereafter, licensees who engage in direct patient care or who prescribe, order, or administer opioids and controlled substances, are required 2 formal Category 1 hours on the following topics:**

All licensed personnel of a pain management clinic who provide medical services to patients, including medical directors and physician assistants, must annually complete 10 hours of continuing education in the area of pain management.

*NetCE courses are considered Category 1.

**The Texas Medical Board has not established Rules at this time. However, the CME topics have been issued as initial guidance by the Board. Additionally, opioid CME completed after a licensee's last renewal or initial licensure date (if no renewal has occurred), but prior to February 6, 2020, may satisfy the requirement if 2 hours were completed and those hours covered, or substantially covered the topics.
