Maine Physicians CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals

Maine Physicians

In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine and the Maine Board of Osteopathic Licensure accept courses from any provider who is ACCME-accredited and awards AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

Continuing Education Requirement

Attention Maine Physicians: Pursuant to Governor Mill’s Executive Order, licenses will not expire or need to be renewed for 30 days after the end of the declaration of the emergency. MDs are required 40 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ every two years. Licensees with prescriptive authority are required 3 hours on the prescribing of opioid medication every renewal.

DOs are required 100 hours every two years, 40 of which must be AOA Category 1-A or 1-B, and a maximum 60 of which may be AOA Category 2-B.* Licensees with prescriptive authority are required 3 hours on the prescribing of opioid medication every renewal.

A medical provider who has not previously issued a written certification to a qualifying patient for the medical use of marijuana must submit evidence of completion of a one-hour continuing education course regarding medical marijuana within the preceding two years, prior to issuing written certifications.

*NetCE courses are considered AOA Category 2-B.
