Louisiana Physicians CE Requirements, Accreditations & Approvals
Louisiana Physicians
In support of improving patient care, NetCE is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
The Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners accepts courses from any provider who is ACCME-accredited and awards AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. NetCE is an approved provider through CE Broker Provider #50-2405 and will electronically report successful course completions to CE Broker.
Continuing Education Requirement

MDs, DOs, and DPMs are required 20 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ each year. Practitioners with a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) license have a one-time requirement of at least 3 hours of Board-approved continuing education on the best practices for the prescribing of CDS, drug diversion training, appropriate treatment for addiction, and the treatment of chronic pain.
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required 8 hours on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of a substance use disorder, one-time only.
Licensed Midwives are required 30 contact hours every two years.
Medical Psychologists are required 35 hours each year. Requirements include:
- At least 20 hours relevant to the practice of medical psychology.
- At least 15 hours in psychology.
- A minimum of 25 percent of the hours must be provided by the Louisiana Association of Medical Psychologists (LAMP).
- At least 2 hours must be in ethics, as it relates to the practice of medical psychology.
- A one-time requirement of 3 hours on the best practices for the prescribing of controlled dangerous substances, drug diversion training, the appropriate treatment for addiction, and the treatment of chronic pain. This requirement may be included in the 35 hours required for license renewal.
Medical Psychologists obtaining an initial Advanced Practice certification must complete 100 hours relating to the use of medications in the management of patients with psychiatric illnesses.
